Bikini is not a Big Deal

Looks like it’s sizzle season in K-town. Tamil actresses are reinventing themselves and how! The latest one to have traded her simple image toplay the glam doll is Vimala Raman. After her coy girl-next-door act in Evaraina Eppudaina, she’s all set to dazzle in a brand new sexy avatar for her new film. “Hey, you can’t expect an NRI girl to wear traditional outfits. The role demanded the kind of clothes I wore,” she says defensively.

But wasn’t sporting a bikini taking things too far? Vimala refutes that charge and says that she wasn’t seeking cheap publicity. She also adds that she hasn’t gone overboard. “I wore a bikini just for a song sequence…it’s no big deal,” she says. Considering that women in Tollywood hardly get to do meaty roles, is this new image meant to compete with hotties Anushka, Ileana and Nayanthara, in the skin show race? “It would be unfair to compare me with established actresses. I also dislike being typecast,” she says firmly.

Vimala has now signed a refreshing role in Gayam 2 and has just wrapped up a Kannada film (Aptha Rakshaka) with the late Vishnuvardhan. “My knowledge of classical dance came handy for the role. Working with the late Vishnuvardhan was a memorable experience,” she rewinds.

The last few months have been hectic for Vimala, who’s done some money-spinning Mollywood films. “Those films showcased my acting repertoire and I received some major awards for them. While awards are perks, the thing that matters the most is audience appreciation,” she points out.

The Sydney-born Tamilian is now yearning to return to do a film in Chennai. “I am hoping to sign a big Kollywood film one of these days,”she says. (TOI)
