Stars night out

The who’s who of Tollywood headed to the Santhosham movie awards. Actor Ram Charan walked in with dad Chiranjeevi and uncle Allu Arvind. Actor Srihari was seen chatting with Charan for most part of the evening. Actresses Sneha Ullal and Suhani looked dapper in ethnic wear, but it was actress Sanjana who stole the spotlight in her purple number. Veteran actor Krishna, Chiranjeevi and Balakrishna were seen catching up after the ceremony. Also spotted directors Rajamouli and Puri Jaganath, actors Srikanth and Sushant among others.

Nobody is in the mood to stay at home on a Saturday night. N seems to be the latest hot spot — pubcrawlers start the evening by going there first and then head to other places. Spotted actors Siddarth, Charan and Aditi Agarwal; among the older lot, it was Satish-Ani, Nagarjuna, Lata-Uttam... and loads of youngsters.

Then the scene shifted to Touch and Spoil. At the latter, Chandana Raju was celebrating her birthday. Soon cops descended on the scene and shut the place so the party owls went to Rajesh Raju’s place for after- hours. In a tranceB&C was where the action was on Saturday night. The nightclub was lit by fancy UV rays and laser beams. Glow bands and sticks were distributed to guests as they walked in. The pulsating trance music that was played by the in-house DJs complemented the psychedelic ultra violet lighting. The nightclub’s regulars like Kapil, Amit, Nikki and others were spotted.

'Kaminey' takes Indian cinema beyond Tarantino, says Shekhar Kapur

New Delhi, Aug 23 (IANS) Internationally acclaimed Indian filmmaker Shekhar Kapur is quite impressed with Vishal Bharadwaj's 'Kaminey' and says the film 'catapults Indian cinema in modernity beyond (Quentin) Tarantino'.

'The greatest thing about Vishal Bharadwaj's 'Kaminey' is that you cannot work out why it is working. You cannot work out why you are laughing amidst the ugliness of violence in perhaps India's first real dark comedy. And why in the final moments of the film with the brilliant background song by Vishal himself, you finally get the point of the film,' Kapur posted on his blog www.shekharkapur.com.

'With violence all around you, you sense innocence caught in the crossfire of unnecessary violence. And finally you come away with a great sense of the pointlessness of it all. It's terrific... Vishal better think hard about how to surpass this one,' he added.

A thoughtful director himself, Kapur further praised the technical aspects of the film that has Shahid Kapoor in a double role.

'The cinematography (by Tassaduq Hussain) is great as are some of the performances, the script and the editing. It is ultimately a director's brilliant vision of the world that is playing through,' he said.

The 63-year-old, however, didn't seem to be too impressed with Bharadwaj's idea of making the lead characters lisp and stammer in the film.

'Did Vishal have to use the idea of stuttering and stammering with the main character though? It was a little over done and the only thing that harked to a more traditional form of comedy in Indian films. The film could have done with a little less of that,' he wrote.

'Kaminey' is Bharadwaj's first commercial hit. It earned about Rs.330 million in its first weekend at the box office.

Talking about her co-star Fardeen Khan, in the recently released Life Partner, the 22-year-old actor says, “It was great working with Fardeen because we share a good rapport. He is encouraging and you enjoy working with people from whom you can learn things.”

Genelia has given many award winning performances and she’s an established name in Kollywood and Tollywood. “I enjoy acting and it doesn’t matter whether I am doing a Bollywood flick or a South Indian one,” says the actor. Does Genelia intend to act in Hollywood and is she ready to do cameos? “If it’s worth playing such roles, definitely I will do it,” says Genelia. “I have always given importance to scripts but now it’s like a complete meal which includes director, producers, co-stars et al.”

So what’s her take on fashion? “I am a very casual person,” she says. For the world outside, she’s a cool person. But what makes her go red? “Pretentious people and people who take away credit for others’ work really put me off,” says the actress.

Success and a hectic lifestyle don’t stop her from doing what a girl of her age does. “I do all the normal things like any girl of my age would be doing. I don’t restrict myself from doing anything — be it walking on the roads, going to public places or having a blast with my friends,” says Genelia.

So has she found her prince charming? “Right now I don’t have any special person in my life. It’s not that I want to concentrate only on my career so I am avoiding getting into a relationship. But I believe if it had to happen it will happen someday."

Genelia believes in living life to the fullest. “I take life positively. I am also very energetic”. Her happy go lucky girl image has won her many fans. “The image of a chulbuli girl goes with me but I am sure of myself. I know what to do and what not to do,” she says with a note of finality.

Top Hero goes out of his way for Prabhu Deva!

Salman Khan does not seem to believe in the ‘Tit for Tat’ theory. Perhaps, that’s the reason he has a stronghold over the film industry- despite showing his displeasure over the mismanagement of monetary deals by producers, he remains at his helping best in return.

Salman yet again displayed his big heartedness, this time for the producer of his film WANTED. According to reliable sources close to the film, “Salman Khan was all up to help his producer come out of a difficult situation, as the shooting was about to wrap up due to a confusion. Prabhu wanted a specific location to shoot a few sequence of the song ‘Jalwa’ for his forthcoming film Wanted. However, on the day of the shoot, the location manager, by mistake had booked the place for two units, out of which one unit was already shooting there.”

The source goes on to add, “Prabhu Deva was about to call it a day, and started pack-up for the unit when Salman used his charm and requested the other unit’s production manager for shooting. And the next minute, our unit was all set-up to start and roll.”

As we mentioned earlier, there’s no Tit for Tat in Salman’s dictionary as Sallu Miya freely extends a helping hand to Producers; even though some of them cut his fee in the name of recession!
