Oscar winner A.R. Rahman (SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE) for the first time will be seen in front of the camera in upcoming film SON OF A PREACHER MAN, about the life and times of Grammy winning singer-songwriter-producer PJ Morton.
Besides Rahman, other cast includes American Gospel musician Kirk Franklin (NORBIT), Grammy nominated American Idol Winner Ruben Studdard (LIFE ON A STICK), and producer Warryn Campbell (STOMP THE YARD). Shot in Atlanta and New Orleans in USA and London in United Kingdom, it will be released in 2010. Michael Akwesi Djaba (REASONABLE EXCUSE) is the director.
Rahman and Morton collaborated on Sajna song in recent Hollywood comedy COUPLES RETREAT.
Rahman, who has reportedly recorded sales of over 300 million, was called "Mozart of Madras’’ by Time magazine. Rahman sees music "as a way to connect to spirituality and embrace it" and for "creating harmony in troubled times".
The Pirates of the Caribbean star has been awarded the title by US magazine People for the second time. In 2003, he was given the same title by the magazine. After George Clooney and Brad Pitt, he is the third man to gain the honour twice, according to reports.

A website reports that Pitt tried to manoeuvre his bike between a parked car and a car stopped at a red light, and his handlebars clipped the parked car. He lost control and fell over.

The snap, which shows the soccer ace sleeping, was in fact displayed at London’s National Portrait Gallery in 2004, reports the Sun.

Radcliffe explained his decision to take twice-weekly ballet lessons for the role, in order to compete with his contemporaries who would be graduating from drama school. "They’ve been learning dance or singing and all that stuff, and I’m going to need to compete with them because I won’t have Harry Potter as my safety net anymore. I need to make myself as viable a choice for any part as I possibly can," Radcliffe had said.
Radcliffe made his stage debut last year with Equus after finishing filming for Harry Potter And The Half Blood Prince.
For his efforts, Radcliffe earned a Drama Desk nod in New York and two WhatsOnStage Awards in the West End. Radcliffe is currently filming the final installments of the Harry Potter movies, Deathly Hallows, which will be released in two parts.(PTI)

Actress Elizabeth Taylor said on Tuesday she was going into a hospital for heart surgery and asked for prayers. Taylor, 77, was diagnosed with congestive heart failure five years ago and also has endured severe back problems and a benign brain tumour operation. She made the announcement on her Twitter page, saying she wanted to break the news herself before the media found out.
"Dear Friends, I would like to let you know before it gets in the papers that I am going into the hospital to have a procedure on my heart," Taylor wrote.
"It’s very new and involves repairing my leaky valve using a clip device, without open heart surgery, so that my heart will function better. Any prayers you happen to have lying around I would dearly appreciate. I’ll let you know when it’s all over. Love you, Elizabeth," she said.
She often uses a wheelchair in her rare public appearances but has enthusiastically embraced Twitter in recent months as a way of communicating directly with her fans and the media. Taylor’s Hollywood publicist said he had nothing to add to her Twitter announcement (Reuters).

The Pretty Woman was shooting on Sunday with co-star Richard Jenkins for director Ryan Murphy’s film in this Haryana village, around eight k.m. from Pataudi, where she shot her earlier scenes.
Roberts, 41, was wearing loose green pyjamas and had wrapped a green printed stole around her. Her blonde hair was tied in a pony tail. Jenkins was in t-shirt and trousers.
"We are not going to Cherrapunji (Meghalaya) for the other scenes as was scheduled earlier, but are heading to Bali," a source close to the film unit told IANS at the scene.
"The Bali shoot will be our last outdoor shooting spot," the source said, adding that they would wrap up shooting in November. The film is expected to be released in 2011, she added.
Just as director Ryan Murphy said "Rolling camera" for a shot, two donkeys started braying. Everybody laughed and some unit hands went to shoo the animals. The donkeys were not part of the village scene. They were tied outside a farmer’s house adjacent to the set.

The children who were plucked from poverty and shot to international fame with the multiple Oscar winning film have been signed up to star in a new film ’Lord Owen’s Lady’, reported Sun online.
Rubina Ali, 9, and Azhar Ismail, 10, will star alongside the ’Hannibal’ actor in the film about a Welsh nobleman who falls in love with an Indian girl.
Producers of the film, which will be shot in Wales and India, are in talks with Hopkins to play Lord Owen’s father.
The news comes just days after Ismail’s father died of tuberculosis in India.
Executive producer Martin Pennell has offered his condolences to the youngster and hopes the tragedy won’t hinder his blossoming Hollywood career.
"It is very sad, but it was his dad’s desire for him to play a part in the film," he said.
