Producer-director Sujoy Ghosh’s fantasy film Aladin, which stars Amitabh Bachchan, has been granted a ’U’ certificate by the Censor Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
The film, which is a modern day adaptation of Aladin story, is releasing worldwide next week. Riteish Deshmukh plays the central character in the fantasy while Bachchan stars as the ’genie’ and Sanjay Dutt essays the role of evil ’ringmaster’.
"The film is a wholesome family entertainer that would appeal to kids and adults alike. It was shown to Censors this Wednesday and they were more than happy with what they saw. I expected a ’U’ certificate because there is no violence, nudity or obscenity in the film," Ghosh said.
"This was always meant to be a family film and our vision was in that direction from Day One. Even though the basic essence of Aladin comes from the children’s tales that we have heard for decades, the narrative has been spiced up to gain enough attention from adults as well," he said.
He said he was mighty excited that Big B is taking a personal interest and is going all out to promote the venture.
"Riteish Deshmukh and Sri Lankan beauty Jacqueline Fernandes are working 24X7 on the promotion of the film.
It is heartening to see Amitabh Bachchan travelling around the country to make sure that Aladin is seen and heard," the director said.
Ghosh is also happy with the response to the song track ’You May Be’, composed and sung by Vishal and Shekhar.
"This was always meant to be an anthem song for the film, just as was the case with ’Tu Aashique Hai’ from my previous films Jhankar Beats," he added.(PTI)
