Actor-filmmaker Aamir Khan said that he had apprehensions about working with producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra before signing 3 Idiots, which is set to release on December 25.
During the course of making of the film, I realised that my apprehensions were unfounded. Everybody has certain impressions about the other person even before knowing or meeting him and I realised this,” said Aamir at the unveiling of the first look of 3 Idiots.
Aamir said when Raj Kumar Hirani approached him with the role, he wondered if he could “tolerate” Chopra. “I had no problems with Hirani and was eager to work with him. In fact, I was dying to work with Hirani after Lage Raho Munna Bhai”, the 44-year-old actor said.
He (Hirani) was the first to tell me that he would not work with him. We were planning a film and one day he came and told me that he had changed his mind and was doing Munna Bhai 2,” the actor recalled.
Apart from Aamir, the film stars Sharman Joshi, R Madhavan who play IIT students and Kareena Kapoor who essays the character of a medical student. Hirani said the film shows that anybody who is a non-conformist is taken to be an idiot. When asked if he has adopted the novel in its entirety or made deviations, the filmmaker said, “Wait till December 25.”
Vidhu Vinod Chopra said that he shared a level of comfort with Raju Hirani, but “After meeting Aamir, I realised that I was saner. Aamir was more crazy than me. I never felt I was working with a star,” he said. Aamir declined to respond to queries on whether he had met Oscar winning director Danny Boyle who is currently in Mumbai.(TNN)
